A world without birds

Fostering Ecological Hope

Today from Margaret Swedish:

I wonder if we realize what the loss of the natural world we have known will really mean for those of us in this and the next few generations that will experience that loss.  I wonder if we have a clue what depths of grief and sorrow we will reach.  If that doesn’t motivate us — even more than all the economic loss in the world — I don’t know what will.

And so I wanted to share this article with you.

I wonder if we can claim the hope that is required to see ourselves through this great transition in the human journey unless we have the capacity for this grief.  I try to imagine a world without birds, and I can’t.  It is not a world I want to be in.

Can we love our Earth enough, cherish it enough, to keep the worst from happening?
