Ready to accept gas tax increase - for the right reasons

A new poll conducted by the New York Times/CBS News shows that a large majority of US Americans are prepared  to pay higher gas taxes if these are linked to efforts to reduce global warming.  Read the article at:

The poll shows that 85 percent oppose an increase in the federal gas tax.  However, when asked if they would favor or oppose a tax increase if it would reduce dependence on foreign oil, the percentage shifted entirely:  55% they would favor an increase.  When linked to reductions in global warming, that percentage increased even more: 59% in favor, and 34% opposed.

US American are out in front of politicians on this one, prepared to deal with some of the painful transitions in our US consumption patterns to address destructive climate change.
