New creation is not a “thing” we make. It is an act, on ongoing unfolding. We create – like an artist before a canvas, or a writer, pen and journal in hand. Creation in this sense is not a result, a finished project. It is an ongoing work. It is a journey, full of potential, of surprises, of new insights, new revelations. And this work of new creation has never been more necessary than it is right now.

It’s NOT growth; it’s depletion

Most economists and policymakers tell us what we need more of is economic growth. But economic growth is not growth at all. It is depletion, using up, and it is taking us down a terrible road. We need to deny them this future.

I mean, for what other times would we be born other than the ones we are actually in? And, knowing that, can we also believe that we have what we need to address the great challenges of our times? Can we trust that we have been given what we need to bring about the great transition?

Plants grow from the roots – the ecology of social movements

Like roots of a healthy plant, social movements grow from below. In recent years, a grassroots movement has emerged in much of the U.S. in response to the fossil fuel industry’s increasing destruction of our eco-communities. Some of those “healthy plants” came together in Madison WI on Feb. 21, and this is part of that story, a story of hope and inspiration. We have lost a lot; we have not lost everything. The seeds of ecological/social/cultural transformation are maturing into one of the most significant, and arguably most important movements of this century.
