Fostering Ecological Hope
Today from Margaret Swedish:
If we believed the insight in the verse below, if we really believed that but one stream of life runs through our veins as through the Earth, the rivers, the forests, the winds — maybe, if we saw ourselves as we really are, we would cease hurting, tearing up, destroying, that from which we come, that which holds us, sustains us, nurtures us — that same stream of life.
And so this verse from Rabindranath Tagore:
The same stream of life
that runs through the world
runs through my veins
night and day in rhythmic measure. It is the same life that shoots in joy
through the dust of the earth
into numberless waves of flowers.
The spring blooms in waves of flowers. Life renewed shoots joyously from the Earth — it is of us and within us and is us.
If we can stop long enough to know this again, to love this again, to realize this again, so that we might also — again — become part of the stream rather than destroyer of the stream –
…then maybe, just maybe, we can step back from the destruction and allow this Earth — that is also us — to heal.
Stream of Life
The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth
and of death, in ebb and in flow.I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.
