What will the naysayers say now? As if the previous near consensus on global warming was not enough, now the US's own National Academy of Sciences has issued a report from a new study indicating that the earth is warmer than it has been in more than four centuries, and perhaps longer — and that this is largely human-caused.
ABC News tonight gave it a very brief nod halfway through its report. But NBC got the significance of this, making the report its lead story and generally scaring us all to death. This is very, very good because we need to be scared.
What will the Bush administration say now? What will corporate-run or science-denying members of Congress say now? This is the body that lends its expertise pro bono to the federal government and the tax-paying public.

By the way, a meterologist on the news tonight predicted a very dry and much warm-than-normal summer across the US. Look at a drought map right now. Look at this early summer warmth blanketing the country. If this was one year, we could say, gosh, unusually hot dry summer. But this comes on year after year of record warmth, last year being the warmest ever, surpassing the record set in 2004 which surpassed the record set in 2003…
