Fostering Ecological Hope

Today from Margaret Swedish:

Today the journal Nature says that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) blocked release of a report showing that human-caused global warming was increasing the severity of hurricanes.  According to a report from the Associated Press, the study was initiated by NOAA, which then, apparently, didn’t like its conclusions.

Here is another example of how the Bush administration keeps the truth from us, truth that might indicate the need for some drastic action on global warming.  It continues to amaze me that people in power will tend to let disaster come, rather than change course when the course is leading straight towards that disaster.  I guess disaster is easier for them than taking responsibility and making changes, some of which might be wildly unpopular — especially with those whose current wealth and comfort depend upon the status quo.

But then there’s New Orleans, and the Mississippi gulf coast, and the crumpled communities of Florida, and the FEMA trailers…

It’s a sad state of affairs.
