So now what?

What is wrong with us? And why are we so impermeable to the changes roiling our planet?…

Has it been good to harm the world this way, to find meaning and spiritual journeying and faith and community and common purpose and love of Nature replaced with consumer stuff and shopping malls and poisoned water, land, and air, and cancer epidemics and the fragmentation of family, community, and village life?

Do we like this world as it is? And if not, why do we insist on believing that it must be like this, or that we can’t change it?

We can change it…

Some of the strongest bonds being developed between humans and all the sentient and non-sentient beings among whom they live are in the places where those humans are partnering with rivers, forests, wildlife, and more to defend the “places” where they live. We are beginning to “get it,” to understand on a very deep level that our very human existence and meaning itself depend upon the health of those relationships.

It is very late in the game…

Moving to a carbon-free economy won’t be easy, but it necessary, and a lot sooner than most of us would like to believe. We have to start creating economies of scale, begin to power down the global economy, and learn again how to live within this planet. When do we need to do this? Oh, right about – now!

Ferment in the world of religion and faith

How they cope, how they emerge – whether in resistance to the transition underway or by opening to it in wholly new ways – being themselves transformed – will have a large influence on how we humans get through the crisis time.

The planet is changing forever. Now what do we do?

The planet is forever changed and changing. We are living crisis to crisis it seems as industrial society, still growing at a voracious pace, devours more and more of what we need for life. Over and over again we hear the bad news stories about the state of our planet. We already know it’s bad. Therefore, this essential question: given the reality, what in the world do we do now?
