Two contrasting visions are coming into greater conflict as we approach decision time for the planet. One is about domination of the earth at the service of the human, the other is about seeing our place within Gaia and caring for the community of the whole. From the drying of the High Plains aquifer to the exploitation of tars sands oil and vast transhipment networks, we are coming rapidly to the point here we have to decide to go in one direction or the other. The contradiction can no longer hold.

There is no way around it. It is very bad news. But, despite that news, there is still so much that we can do – learning new ways of life, and ramping up our work to save the environment in which we live and move and have our being. These will be the essential ingredients of what it means to be human for the next generations.
