The Flint water crisis is one dramatic sign of “the great unraveling” underway in this society. So is the fractured, incoherent political culture in which intolerance, rage, and scapegoating are currently out of control. But the underlying cause of it all lies in a corporate profit-driven economic system that is leaving people behind, tearing up ecosystems, and driving our living communities to the brink of disaster. That is the driver of the crisis, and the one that needs to be overturned if we are to pull ourselves back from that brink.

Real gratitude requires truth. It is an orientation, a way of life.

The Comet Sings!

A species that is bent on destroying its own web of life can also sit back this morning and listen to a comet’s song. Capable of vast self-destruction, capable of a vast curiosity and desire to know. Technology will destroy us, or, as tools in our search for knowledge, it can serve our quest for greater meaning, a deeper experience of wonder and awe. We have to decide – do we still want to be gods, or can we submit to this humble quest on the only planet we know where this quest is even possible?

We are re-inventing this project to make way for some New Creation. In the midst of ecological crisis, that is what is rising up in the midst of it. Hope is a verb, it’s what we do, not a thing to be possessed as if it can exist apart from what we do. In that sense it is in our hands. And helping to empower and share the stories of new creation will be our project in the days ahead. But we sure can use your support to realize this new dream.
